Doing Good By Writing Well

Shut Up & Write! Blog Post - We're now a Non Profit Organization Announcement

After years of building our writing communities and developing our curricula, we’re incredibly excited to announce that Shut Up & Write is officially a nonprofit organization!

Together Shut Up & Write! and our sister literacy organization, Writing Partners, will further build our collective vision of a world in which every writer’s story is told.

So what does this mean?

On a day to day basis, Shut Up & Write!’s weekly writing events won’t change at all – serving, as always, as a consistent and quiet place for writers across the globe to get their writing done. If you’re an organizer, your invaluable role will remain constant as well. Our mission is and always has been to empower writers by providing them with the guidance, services and support they need to grow – and we’re so excited to fully realize that vision in the years to come.

In the Spring of 2020 we’ll launch Writing Partners, partnering our community of 30,000 writers with their local schools, summer programs and nonprofits to improve youth literacy and critical thinking skills. With your help, we’ll create free and accessible environments around the world for children to write, learn, and, most importantly, develop a lifelong passion for writing.

We’re truly thrilled to be embarking on this next step with all of you. Now – let’s go make an impact on generations of writers to come.

Rennie founded Shut Up & Write! in 2007 following a desire to meet fellow writers while working on a series of science fiction novels. Rennie spends an inordinate amount of time reading Wikipedia and Discover Magazine articles as research for his science fiction writing, practices Indonesian martial arts and cooks wholesome dinners for his family. His novella, Pale Angel, is available on Amazon and The Proteus Knife, a novel, will be released in late 2019.
