As the COVID-19 virus makes its way around the world, many of you may be wondering what precautions are necessary to take during these uncertain times.
Shut Up & Write is an international community of over 60,000 writers across almost 50 countries. We understand there are a wide range of ways in which different communities have been affected, and we urge you to follow the recommendations provided by your local health authorities.
We know that many of our Organizers will have to make changes to their hosted writing events, and we want to support you in any way possible. Please let us know how we can help your writing efforts in weeks to come, including if you want support in getting your regular writing event moved to online. Feel free to reach out at any time: questions@shutupwrite.com.
In general, we recommend that all of our members follow the CDC- and WHO-issued guidelines around proper hand-washing, avoiding handshaking, and seeking healthcare. Some demographics are more vulnerable than others if exposed to COVID-19, so if you belong to one of these groups, it is advisable to remain particularly vigilant.
For those of you who are looking for a sense of community and accountability while remote, we’ve just launched our new Virtual Chapter in order to connect with fellow members, discuss writing projects, and keep yourself accountable while working remotely. You can also find us on Twitter at @shutupwrite, and on our Facebook group. We’ve also compiled a list of 10 Best Practices for Writing from Home to support all of our remote writers.
We are thinking of you all and wishing for the best as we work together to get through this new global development.
~The Shut Up & Write Team
